Three and a Half Inch and Five Inch Raised Track
New to Drumawhey Junction Railway
Belfast & County Down Miniature Railway Society who have run Drumawhey Junction Railway for over 30 years have amalgamated with the Model Engineers’ Society Northern Ireland who have run trains at the Transport Museum, Cultra for over 50 years. The amalgamated societies will become Drumawhey Junction Railway & Model Engineering Society.
Many hours of work have been spent working on many aspects of the Drumawhey site to facilitate the needs of the new club, including a brand new members clubhouse, a workshop and, one of the most visible changes you will see is that the raised track from Cultra for three and a half inch gauge and five inch gauge engines and rolling stock has been rebuilt at Drumawhey.
The locomotives that run on these are have been built by enthusiasts in their home workshop or in the club workshop. They are used by members and their families and we hope you will enjoy watching them. These can bepowered by hand, battery or petrol but many of them are coal powered using fires of tiny anthracite beans to heat the boilers and produce steam.
